Hi Cosmos,
How are you making out? I checked into the implants too and at this point, too expensive for now....LOL....but really doing better....I was just looking at the bar implant for the dentures to get rid of the palate and was quoted about 5K for the two post clip on and about 10K for the bar implant (4 posts and bar to clip dentures onto)....I'm gonna wait for the hard align to see what it is like then, my gums have REALLY shrunk more then they thought and the dentures up on the top front are REALLY too big (the gum portion)..but working it with adhesive for now. Hope your doing well and having a great day, K |

I'm doing much better, thanks for asking. I go back to the oral surgeon on March 11 to see if I'm ready for the implants. Saw my dentist 2 days ago and he said it had healed nicely. My dentures have loosened, but not too badly. I'm anxious to get the next hurdle accomplished. I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. I'll be keeping up with you. Helen |

I had gone to the dentist week before last and he stated he was amazed at how much shrinkage has already passed. My dentures are HUGE....LOL...therego the need for the adhesive. He did adjustments, but it is the front of the plate the ridges are just to wide....so they are discussing doing the hard align earlier than usual. I lost a bit of bone on my left side, but all else seems to be great.....your welcome, the adhesive trials where kinda fun to try. I love the secure adhesive and sometimes use the seabond wafers when I know I'm going to the dentist or at night, but it is hard to eat with as they 'scrape' upon some soft tissue and hurt, the adhesive pads it for me....but it is all good.....glad to hear your almost ready for the implants, one day I might be able to afford them...LOL....I wish you the best! I'll look in on your postings as well. Thanks for the update...
Smile! K Quote:

Hi prairiegirl,
I assume that you had your teeth extracted and wore nothing until 3 days ago? If so, may I ask what the reason was for not wearing a denture immediately after the extractions? Bryanna Quote:

I went today to see the denturist and he did fix the denture a lot ---much more comfy to wear but I still cannot eat anything more than mush. I guess that will come in time??? I was quoted $15 K for a 4 implant setup and plate in the fall should I wish to do that. He said I would love that --no gagging etc. But also said there is no guarantee with implants --I have to wait until the fall (6 months) until the gums are shrunk etc. so I have time to think about that. It's amazing they can charge that kind of $$ and not offer any kind of guarantee. Even my endodontist gave me back 1/2 of my $$ from my failed root canals !! I guess I just have to be patient (not one of my great strengths according to my husband !! LOL |

Hi prairiegirl,
That's great that you like your smile and feel that your denture looks..."like you".... :-)) Actually all dentures are custom made from impressions that are taken of the patients mouth before the extractions are done. Very often, the dentures are ready ahead of time so the patient can wear them immediately after the extractions. For whatever reason, your dentist chose to wait and that's fine too! Either way, it is important to keep seeing the denturist for adjustments as your mouth heals from the surgery. You will probably be eating a soft diet for several more weeks and that too is normal. The fee that you were quoted for the implants and implant retained denture sounds like it's in the ballpark. It is important to wait the 6 months for the jawbone to heal a bit before putting in the implants. Then there is another waiting period of about 3-6 months for the implants to integrate with the jawbone before making the implant denture. First things first... see how you do with this denture and then decide if you need to do the implants. Although there are relatively few dental implants that fail when considering the many thousands that are done every day..... there is still no guarantee that the implants will be successful because they can fail at anytime for a variety of reasons unrelated to the actual implant surgery. I am surprised that the endodontist returned half of your money for your root canals! I would guess that he didn't have much hope for the teeth he root canaled in the first place. But still, that's good that you received the refund! Hang in there..... every day will get better and new challenges will surface but you will do ok in the long run ;-)) Bryanna Quote:

I went to http://www.securedenture.com/
and it was free shipping for 3 tubes, but its now $7.97 each. I have been thinking of trying this adhesive out. I have been wearing partial upper & lower dentures for about a year. They have had 4 teeth added to them 2 times after the initial set was made. They have no metal in them and are a bit flexible and mold to my mouth after I put them in in the a.m. They are a bit tight when I first put them in, but feel comfortable after a few minutes when they warm to body temp. It helps to rinse them in warm water after soaking & brushing them. My biggest complaint is that food always gets trapped in them when eating. It is terribly irritating to have food particles under my partials. Sometimes they try to slip out if I eat something sticky or doughy. I haven't been using a denture cream.... since I bought a tube of Fixodent & tried it for about a week. I hate the glop on my gums & palette, and difficulty cleaning them off (I do use a denture brush and a Polident 5 min soak in hot water). I don't want to have to carry a tube of denture bond with me all the time when I go to restaurants (frequently). Its bad enough that I have to excuse myself after a meal and go to the men's room to rinse them, but having to re-apply a bonding cream in a public restroom is not what I prefer to do. Its cumbersome and embarrassing ! Will this 'Secure' help keep the food from getting trapped under the dentures? Can anyone give me a recommendation?

Denture creams are used to keep a partial or denture in place. They take up extra room in the appliance so it fits more snug.
If your partials are tight, then there would be no room for the cream and it could cause them to not fit properly. Getting food stuck underneath the partial denture is a a frequent complaint from patients. It's the design of the appliance itself that is somewhat flawed. But there is only so much that can be done to alter the design of it. Perhaps someone else will stop by here and have a solution for you!
