I was wondering if anyone is taking anti-seizure meds for chronic pain management, if so which one and how do you like it?
I have constant pain all day in my back and it really makes daily tasks a nightmare sometimes. I was talking with someone recently who said they take an anti-seizure med for pain management but I don't remember what it was. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi ker0pi,
There are very few medications that are FDA specifically for MS. The majority of medications used for symptom management for MS is used "off label." Quote:

It take Neurontin (generic - gabapentin). I usually don't do well with meds but I have done very well on the gabapentin. I have been on it since 2003. For me, it does a good job at keeping the nerve pain in my ribs at bay. I still get breakthrough pain but overall have done well with it.

Gabapentin has also helped my rib pain and nerve pain zingers that shoot down arms & legs. It has really 'toned' it down...not completely gone, but manaeable.
Good luck! Amy |

I take a low dose of anti-depressant (Prothiaden aka Dothep) in the evening to help with 'burning' legs/feet, and I take a small dose of Topamax morning and night, which is an anti-epileptic to help with getting correct pain signals and so on to my legs. The doc put me on that because I had a series of falls over a fairly short period - and thankfully (or coincidentally - who knows), I haven't had a fall since. It does help some. If I go without for a while, I can certainly feel it getting much, much worse; I am also less stable for some reason.

I took Topamax for two years, a low dose morning and night and it "cured" my migraines, that was what my MS specialist said, because I had had them for decades and the Topamax stopped them.
However, I also started taking allergy meds around the same time and I wonder if they were allergy-migraines?
