I know a few had mentioned using or trying Electric Stimulation therapies
{ TENS, IFC or maybe EMS}. Mrs. D posted this link for a PN member about recommended pad placement. http://rehabilicare.com/protocol.html

I am wanting to use my TENS unit for pain in the elbow area. The pain is on the underside as well as the top of the arm. I'm not sure if it's TOS pain or if I also have tendonitus but I want to experiment with it at this new site. Previously I've been using the TENS around my neck and scapulas. Does anyone use it on their forearm and if so what placement have you found that works best? I have a unit from Rehabilicare which I like very much and since I haven't yet found a PT I can't yet get help with the placement.
btw-This link has been updated as the company was sold to EMPI. http://www.empi.com/healthcare_profe...il.aspx?id=102 |

[What is the most effective way to use TENS? To achieve the best results of TENS therapy, it is important to remember that TENS merely activates the body's own pain-fighting mechanism. Placing electrodes directly over or around the painful area delivers pain-blocking current to the nerves leading to that area. Some healthcare professionals have found that placing the electrodes along acupuncture points is also effective. Also, it is good to vary the placement of the electrodes each treatment to avoid skin irritation.] http://www.healco.com/news/tens.html

i always put my electrodes right where it hurts. I use my tens all up and down my arms frequently. Actually, i guess it isn't a tens..it is an IF stimulator.
I liek to put a pad right on top of my hand, near the wrist or under the wrist (my wrists always hurt) and then on the bottom inside of the elbow...liek if you are typing at a computer with your arms at 90degrees...look straight down and put the pad close to your elbow on the bent part.... for my wrist to feel better i run it all the way from my neck to wrist on a low setting for a long time, like 30-40 minutes...it can be very helpful.

great information. I have a TENS machine that I haven't used in years. I was checking out the other day to see if it still worked and kept shocking myself! Have to remember how to use it properly!
