Hi All.
I was just on yahoo and there was this lead story about the doctor who won the Nobel prize in 1999 and it seems that the powers that be buried the info. Hugh Downs is talking about a book that he wants you to buy. It's about Nitric Oxide. I then googled the doctor's name and found out he discovered the facts about Nitric Oxide. I watched his videos and he said that our bodies make this and that we need to boost it by taking l-arginine and l-citrulline along with anti-oxidants and exercise. Well, I walk as much as I can, and I grow my own anti-oxidants so that much is covered. I have never taken l-arginine and l-citrulline. I take a lot of supplements along with Alpha Lipoic Acid and am doing well. I read an older thread by Mrs. D about how she took these things and it gave her heartburn. Then further on the thread it mentions that there is a powder form which is less likely to give heartburn. I don't get heartburn because I don't eat anything that would give me heartburn. I'm just wondering if this two things, l-arginine and l-citrulline would be considered an anti-aging regimen to someone who does NOT have heart disease. Can taking l-arginine and l-citrulline lead to a longer life expectancy if you combine it with good lifestyle choices and other things? Just curious. I don't want to rush out and buy these things. I don't even know how much they cost or if I need to be on them. I would just like some info from any of you who take them. My PN is 99% controlled by my taking Methyl B-12 for years. I only get the burning if the weather drops 20 degrees and that's not very often. So far I'm doing good with the neuropathy. No complaints, so my interest in these things are not for neuropathy but for anti-aging. Am I on the right tract? Thanks much Melody P.S. Hey I'm 62 and want to make it to 100 lol

Hi Mel...
The combo will help reduce blood pressure...so you may think about that. I found it helps with cold feet during winter. But I didn't take enough to get the blood pressure reduction. Arginine may activate herpes zoster virus...and after 3 months on the combo I started having shingles pain again. So I had to stop it. But I probably will start it again when winter sets in and give it another go. The arginine does enhance sexual response I found...and you might like that. But both are expensive, so think about it.

Nice to hear from you. Thanks much for the info. and Guess What? I am down to 10 of the Lantus, my sugar is 110 (sometimes it's 80), and in the afternoon it's 126. All this happened AFTER I STOPPED USING SPLENDA. Cannot believe this. I have NEVER gotten such results. I use Liquid Stevia because I don't know if it's the maltodextrin in the little packages of anything that might have contributed to my high readings in the morning. I posted this on the diabetic forum. Because liquid stevia has no bulking agents, I thought I would give it a try. I would like to make sugar free apple pie but I think I might need the stevia packets. Anyway, NO MORE SPLENDA. For some of us diabetics, it actually raises my blood sugar (I looked it up on google). Never saw so many complaints. So many people had the same problem. Their readings got much better when they switched to Stevia or Agave Syrup. I use Stevia and I'm doing just fine. Imagine getting up and your sugar is 80. Never thought I would see this in all my life. Oh, I'm eating fresh fruit too. Not too much, but it's a new experience for me. And last night we went to a birthday party and I had a piece of REGULAR Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Cake. Do you know how good it was? I can still taste it. I was afraid to take my sugar today. But no problem. It was 126. So whatever the heck I'm doing, I'm going to continue to do it. I just might get off this insulin. Slow but steady. lol Melody

Melody and Mrs. D., is this the ProArgi9 Plus that I have been hearing about? Someone on another forum was stating that it reverses arthritis. I just want your take or opinion on it. Thanks!

ProArgi9 uses very high doses....but it is a mixture of more than just arginine.
I am not sure how accurate its page is. From what I know most arginine remains in the GI tract since the lining of the gut has an affinity for it. Using citrulline helps because it passes quickly and is converted to arginine in the tissues. Dr. Ignarro's site is becoming popular so interest in arginine is increasing. But is has always been popular among the weight training crowd. http://www.drignarro.com/no.php Taking high dose arginine may trigger herpes zoster.... as high arginine levels encourage replication of the dormant virus. Most herpes sites recommend balancing with Lysine for this reason. I think it is premature to say it reverses arthritis. But that is just my opinion.

Mrs. D.
I have one question. WOULD YOU TAKE THIS? melody P.S. I, myself will just eat watermelon once in a while. Can't hurt. This stuff is too pricey for me right now, I just want to know if you yourself, if given the opportunity, if you would take this product yourself.

I already posted that I took this combo (1 gram of each) last winter on this thread. I've posted that on the boards here and there too.
I am leary of very high dose use however, because of the viral affinity for arginine. We used to see nursing home patients getting Arginaid (for healing bedsores) who shortly then broke out in shingles a few weeks after starting the Arginaid. http://www.nestle-nutrition.com/prod...a-d71f6309f18a High dose arginine is not NEW.... we've seen it used in wound healing for years now.

Right, I do remember you mentioning that you tried this combo. It would be very nice if this were a magic pill that went POOF and no one would get old.
But too many variables here. Too many possible side effects. And the possibility of the herpes zoster virus becoming active. Not very appealing. Thanks much for explaining. Melody

It is also expensive.
When my feet start getting really cold and I am suffering this winter, I probably will do them again, this time with balancing Lysine from the start.
