Default Side effects of B-12????

Hi.

I was just on the phone with a friend who had another person on another line. So we were doing a 3 way phone conversation. My friend Steven asked me about Methyl B-12. He knows why I take this and how it helped me.

His friend's doctor put her on it because she had a serious B-12 deficiency and he told her. "you must take B-12 or you'll get neuropathy".

She has been on 2000 of the B-12. Naturally I asked her "what kind". She said "B-12". I said "no, look at the bottle and see if it says Cyanocobalimin"

She could not find it and I said "look for a BIG word starting with the letters CYANO

She then found it. So she is definitely taking 2000 sublingually of the cyano

I then explained how b-12 works in the body. She said "well, my last B-12 test was very high" But I am now nervous, anxious, with heart palpitations".

I said 'you have this because of B-12??" She said "yeah". But her doctor told her it was mostly in her mind and that she should NOT stop taking it. He told her if she stops taking it she would get neuropathic pain.

I then asked her about her caffeine intake and she admitted that she does drink things with caffeine. I said 'why not do an experiment". why not take some green tea (without caffeine), don't use caffeine for a week, and half your b-12 intake".

She's been on 2000 of the cyano version.

She thought this might be a good idea. So she's going to go for it.

I asked her about the stress in her life. She said "who doesn't have stress".

She's 57 years old and I don't think she's on anything else.

So my question is "Can a person taking 2000 of cyanocobalimin have heart palpitations and anxiousness that is related to this item?

She did admit she's a nervous person. She takes melatonin at night to sleep.

Any ideas

thanks much

Melody

Question

So why does she have this deficiency? What else is wrong with her?

If her tests are good, obviously the cyano is working.

Some people may become energized on B12... and subjectively report,
it as "anxiety". But we are all so different. There may be other factors she is not telling you... like the caffeine, or RX drugs she may be taking, etc.

I hear you. I have no other information as of now, but should this change, I'll update. Thanks much

I take a lot of b12 as I need a lot to maintain good levels. I have no side effects from them. I drink a lot of coffee and attribute occaissional palpitations to that.

For some reason I need 3500mcg of b12 in sublingual form everyday to maintain good levels. Less than that and in about 3 weeks i start with the nerve damage symptoms and difficulty sleeping, irritability, difficulty concentrating etc etc etc etc.

I am 6 foot 4 inches and a non-overweight 250lbs so i think all people are diffierent with the amount of B12 they need.

I however do experience some anxiety and worry which started when i first started to become nerve damaged and cannot tell if this is from B12 or permanent damage from when I was severely b12 deficient and sick.

I wish I could help more with an answer but the best answer I can give is that for the most part I have not had any bad experiences with my dose of B12 with regards of there being side effects or not.

My doctor swears up and down I cannot take too much and told me not to worry about it and so far i have to agree with him. I do experieince periods of euphoria that feel pretty good but sometimes i feel that heat/cold nerve damage feeling on my left side which is now normal for me after the damage done but is accentuated when i take too much iron.

i do take iron as well and that has to be monitored to avoid heavy metal poisoning as the human body has no way of to get rid of extra iron other than to store it in your tissues which causes tissue breakdown and things like heart failure.

I do have anxiety and the above heat/cold sensations on my left side when my iron dose is too high and toxicity is building up. Bloodwork thankfully tells me when that is happening although I can tell by how I feel. I call it heat/cold because it feels like heat or cold at the same time.

B12 on its own though i doubt you have anything to be concerned about honestly. I've only been on B12 since 2008 but it has been ok. I am very physically active and ride a bike, plkay hockey etc and have not exoperienced anything abnormal with regards to heart or shortness of breath or anything. I get muscle fatigue sometimes but also attribute that to nerve damage I have had from the b12 deficiency.

It absolutely would not surprise me if everyone had unique symptoms to themselves with this stuff.

It absolutely would not surprise me if everyone had unique symptoms to themselves with this stuff.

I have been taking 5000 every morning sublingually and now I take this every other day. Doing fine. no zips or pins and needles and I only burn if the weather goes from 40 degrees, up to 70, and down to 40 in the same day. Here in Brooklyn, it does that on occasion. But when the weather stops doing crazy stuf and it settles around 80, I am a happy camper.

I love hot weather. But then again, I have arthritis and I love the heat.

I don't like air conditioning. I don't like going from a hot atmosphere and walk into a store where they have the air conditioning blasting and I need to have a sweater on.

Or to go from a hot outside, and go into a bus where it's freezing.

I could probably live in the Amazon jungle and be perfectly fine (except for the bugs).

So only an extreme change in temp affects burning in my feet. Other than that (and I attribute this to B-12 usage), I'm doing just danday and I'll never complain.

Because the other day we went to a pain management clinic and I never saw so many people in various stages of pain caused by hit and runs, other type of accidents, etc.

I mean, these people have been through the wringer. There was a lady next to us who had neuropathy from a car accident.

So I just keep my mouth shut and I don't complain. There are many more cases that make my form of neuropathy a walk in the park.

So I take my Methyl B-12, I walk as much as I can, I control my blood sugar and I eat my sprouts.

I get up in the morning and if I am stiff as a board and in pain, then I walk around a bit and I become un-stiff.

Aging is a way of life. Can't do a thing about it.

Just live the best we can.

That's my philosophy. Took me 63 years to get to this.

lol

Yeah I get pins and needles and sometimes the sensation of someone driving a needle through my big toe. I attribute that to the damage I had already since i have permanent stuff on my left side and still drop things like teaspoons and writing pens. The doc says that is gone for good at this point but hey I am stable and have no complaints.

It could have been worse and like you said there are so many who suffer so much with nerve damage and other diseases i really should just keep quiet about my troubles since they do not amount to much next to others.

Melody you have such a good mindset. Reminds me of the quote my pain doc says On the better days do the most you can and on the bad days do the best you can.
Anyhow I remember reading that b12 supplements can in some cause the anxious/heart racing but who knows because probably tylenol even says that. You know how the labels state basically everything.
As someone who does have bad anxiety sometimes I just have the feeling your friend is stating and can't put my finger on why. Nothing changed just some inner something.

Daniella:

You wrote: "I just have the feeling your friend is stating and can't put my finger on why. Nothing changed just some inner something."

I don't know what this means. And it's not my friend, it's a person who called up a friend of mine and he phoned me, and she was also on the other end.

So please clear up what you meant by "your friend is stating"

Thanks much

I am so sorry. I have not slept in 2 full nights so am a little off and did not proof read.
What I meant is I have symptoms sometimes like your friend stated she has. It seems to be from my anxiety. It happens sometimes out of the blue and I can't identify why. All I know is I feel so nervous and on edge.
Sorry again
