I am other neuro boards and post there often but I mostly lurk here. I've been gaining weight for 5 years since I have not been able to work and having medical problems. I am kinda leveling off in that department. Not having as many medical troubles. So I am trying to get my mind on my weight. So I am now posting for advice. I have looked into weight watchers. 1. I can't affoprd the meetings 2. I'd like to try this on my own. I had used the slim fast drinks before. Not like they say drink 3 then eat a good dinner. I use them when I know I need to eat but just don't want anything. Then times I will drink one then eat a small snack like meal. So I know how to count calories. I know about carbs. What about fat and calories from fat. How do I know how much fat I can have or can't have. I see fat and calories from fat but do I need to watch that like calories? When I was young I could just not eat and loose but now I am having to take pain meds and I have to eat to take them or I get sick at my stomach. Also in the past 5 years I have had times that I hardly would eat for weeks and loose nothing. I wonder if the pain meds have messed up my metalizime(sp?). I am trying to every few days get back on my tread mill and walk. I just walk flat no incline yet. It anyone has any advice or suggestions would help me tons. Thanks

Hey, Stranger!
Fancy seein' you here. Re WW...could you join online? It may be marginally cheaper. Also, it only works out to about $12-14 a week, and you might be surprised to find that you could find that in the food you're eating now. It really is much easier than trying to do it yourself. Also...if you did it online, you might be able to pair up with someone locally and "share" a membership, therefore only paying half. (If you pay half, she can share info with you and do the program together on the PC.) If all else fails, start it yourself, and if you E me, I'll give you some guidance. Good luck! LIZARD P.S. Ditch the shakes. They'll screw your blood sugar up and give you the shakes! |

I'm not a good one to give you advice, as I don't loose much, but I do know you need to watch out for fat. Funny thing is, if it don't have sugar, it has fat.
We on this forum have found it hard to lose, but there is a lot of tips coming in at this time. Lizard has done a swell job losing weight and can sure give you lots of hints. I'm doing my best to loose 20 pounds since I am a diabetic. There has been some exercise hints just to get us in the habit of moving more. At the top of the forum are some recipe's to help you get started. I'm sure others will join in and help after the weekend is over. It's kinda slow now. Wishing you much luck. __________ Fancylady

I think that fat should be less than 30% of your diet.
so if you are on a 2000 calorie diet than no more than about 700 calories from fat. If you are on a 1500 calorie diet than no more than 450 calories from fat. And then this needs to be the good kind of fat, olive oil, nuts, avocadoes,...we need fat in our diets jsut have to learn the better ones for us. Welcome! bizi

Hello Monicad1974! So very glad that you stopped to write to us. We love the input.
First, I am so sorry that you have been through so much medically! After reading your brief history, I'm happy that you are finally feeling up to starting a new nutritional path. My husband and I have shared an online Weight Watchers membership since Jan. and it has been awesome. I can honestly tell you that their recipes are so EASY to prepare and are so good. Hubby does the chopping and I do the cooking. We had company for 5 days recently and we fed them our WW meals and they had no idea where I got the recipes, they just loved them. The monthly cost is $16/mo. Good luck in whatever you choose to do and again, welcome. Nancy-H |

Monicad,
Hello! One of the easiest things to remember is: The more colorful your diet, the healthier it is. If your diet is bland, you are eating too many carbs, meats, fats etc. It it is very colorful that is when you are eating your fruits and vegetables. Look at your cart when you are filling it in the grocery store. This is one of the points my doctor likes to harp on. He thinks 90% of your purchases should come from the produce department. I haven't quite gotten to that point yet, but I am working that way.
